The Next Generation Air Transportation System Plan is designed to transform systems to ensure safety in our nation's skies and airports in the mid-term. The Plan is a status report on Next Generation deployments, capabilities, and benefits present in today's National Airspace System (NAS), plus goals set and commitments made to reach the mid-term goals. The Plan also addresses harmonization of work with the global aviation community to ensure globally operated aircraft receive the same operational benefits found in other international air traffic environments.
The primary goals of NextGen are:
enhance the safety and reliability of air transportation
improve efficiency in the NAS and
reduce aviation's impact on our environment.
The air traffic global community are the primary audience for this critical Federal Aviation resource.
