More than 200 years ago, the first Presidential cabinet department, the Department of Foreign Affairs, was established by the Congress. Later, the name was changed to the Department of State. To highlight the work of the U.S. Department of State and other Federal agencies in the area of international affairs, the U.S. Government Publishing Office  (GPO) offers for sale a special collection of publications designed for those interested in finding success in the inter-governmental relations and foreign policy.

Some highlights to this collection include:

Renowned print series, Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS)  with new volumes added yearly, so check back often.

Numerous military policy books that deal wtih defense and national security issues, such as multinational operations, foreign government and policies,  government reform, and civil -military relations matters, and more.

The Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) series by the U.S. State Department presents the official documentary historical record of major U.S. foreign policy decisions and significant diplomatic activity. It is composed of sub-series for each presidential administration, with volumes representing different areas of the world or foreign policy issues.

"With this bill, we reaffirm that fundamentally American ideal—that every child, regardless of race, income, background, the zip code where they live, deserves the chance to make of their lives what they will."

Those remarks were made by President Barack Obama when he signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) into law on December 10, 2015.

The ESSA was signed into law to help ensure educational opportunity for all students by:

  • Holding all students to high academic standards that prepare them for success in college and careers.
  • Ensuring accountability by guaranteeing that when students fall behind, steps are taken to redirect resources into what works to help them and their schools improve.
  • Reducing the burden of testing on students and teachers, making sure that tests don’t crowd out teaching and learning, without sacrificing clear, annual information parents and educators need to make sure our children are learning.
  • Providing more children access to high-quality preschool.
  • Establishing new resources for proven strategies that will spur reform and drive opportunity and better outcomes for America’s students.

In support of the ESSA the GPO Online Bookstore is offering the following free educational eBooks.

To obtain a copy of the ESSA call our main retail bookstore on (202) 512-0132, Monday-Friday, between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
