The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), previously known as the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), is a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with state governments to administer Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and health insurance portability standards. In addition to these programs, CMS has other responsibilities, including the administrative simplification standards from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), quality standards in long-term care facilities (nursing homes) through its survey and certification process, Medicare and home health services, Medicare Advantage plans in Spanish language, clinical laboratory quality standards under the Clinical Laboratory improvement Amendments, and oversight of HealthCare.gov.

The most popular CMS publication sold by the U.S. Government Bookstore is the CMS-1500 form, the official standard Medicare and Medicaid health insurance claim form. It was developed by the independent National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) and used by all non-institutional medical provider or supplier to bill Medicare carriers and durable medical equipment regional carriers (DMERCs) when a provider qualifies for a waiver from the Administrative Simplification Compliance Act (ASCA) requirement for electronic submission of claims. It is also used for billing of some Medicaid State Agencies (contact your Medicaid State Agency for more details).

Claims must be submitted on original, not photocopied, print versions of the CMS-1500 forms as they are printed in special OCR-scannable red ink. Original, blank forms are available from GPO in several convenient laser-printed compatible quantities and formats, such as single sheet, 1-part, 2-part, and 2-part snapout versions.

The Central Intelligence Agency was created in 1947 with the signing of the National Security Act by President Harry S. Truman. The act also created a Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) to serve as head of the United States intelligence community; act as the principal adviser to the President for intelligence matters related to the national security; and serve as head of the Central Intelligence Agency. The Director's responsibilities include: Collecting intelligence through human sources and by other appropriate means; Correlating and evaluating intelligence related to the national security and providing appropriate dissemination of such intelligence; Providing overall direction for and coordination of the collection of national intelligence outside the United States through human sources.

The function of the Central Intelligence Agency is to assist the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency in carrying out the responsibilities outlined above. To accomplish its mission, the CIA engages in research, development, and deployment of high-leverage technology for intelligence purposes. As a separate agency, CIA serves as an independent source of analysis on topics of concern and also works closely with the other organizations in the Intelligence Community to ensure that the intelligence consumer—whether Washington policymaker or battlefield commander—receives the best intelligence possible.

Famous publications produced by the CIA include the World Factbook, the Studies in Intelligence journal, and the CIA historical series which provide a retrospective on the CIA's role in critical US foreign policy arenas.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 1 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations pertaining to general provisions involved in compiling the CFR that are in effect as of the date of the publication.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 10 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations that are in effect as of the date of the publication pertaining to energy, including: nuclear energy, testing, and waste; oil, natural gas, wind power and hydropower; climate change, energy conservation, alternative fuels, and energy site safety and security. Includes energy sales regulations, power and transmission rates.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 11 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations that are in effect as of the date of the publication pertaining to Federal elections.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 12 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations that are in effect as of the date of the publication pertaining to banks, banking, credit unions, farm credit, mortgages, consumer financial protection and other related financial matters.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 13 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations that are in effect as of the date of the publication pertaining to business credit and assistance, including: economic development; small business development, assistance and guaranteed Federal disaster loans. Covers Federal contracting assistance to SBCs located in HUBzones (historically underutilized business zones) and PRIME (Program for Investment in Microentrepreneurs) plus Government 8A contracting programs for women, minority-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

The Code of Federal Regulations Title 14 contains the codified Federal laws and regulations that are in effect as of the date of the publication pertaining to aeronautics, air transportation / aviation (including large and small aircraft, such as commercial airplanes, helicopters, balloons and gliders),  and space exploration, including areas overseen by the FAA and NASA.
