The United States Code (US Code) is the Code of Laws of the United States of America and is a compilation and codification by subject matter of all the general and permanent Federal laws of the United States. This volume contains codified Federal laws as of 2012 pertaining to transportation.
Sections 101-501 of this volume covers the organization, general duties and powers through special authority of the US Department of Transportation. Section 701 covers the Surface Transportation Board establishment and administrative components. Section 1101 Chapter 11 covers the National Transportation Board organization, duties and powers, administration, and law enforcement, including penalties.
Subtitle III covers General and Intermodal programs including the following:
• Transportation of Hazardous Material,
• Public Transportation,
• Intermodal Transportation and Sanitary Food Transportation,
• Bureau of Transportation Statistics
Subtitle IV covers Interstate Transportation including Rail, Motor Carriers, Water Carriers, Brokers and Freight Forwarders and Pipeline carriers. Rates through routes, jurisdiction, registration, Federal-State relations, and enforcement including investigations are included in each of these sections related to Interstate Transportation. Subtitle V covers Rail Programs, especially Safety-accidents and incidents to Passenger Transportation including Amtrak, Intercity Passenger Rail Service, and High Speed rail including commuter rail mediation are included. Subtitle VI Section 30101 through 3318 covers Motor Vehicle and Driver Programs –standards and compliance, importing motor vehicles and equipment, National Driver Registration, National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety, Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators, Participation in the International Transportation Plan and International Fuel Tax Agreement, and more. Subtitle VII covers Aviation Programs (Sections 40101-50105) to include Air Commerce and Safety; Airport Development and Noise; Financing; Public Airports. Subtitle VII features Pipelines (Sections 60101-60503)--This section covers safety, user fees, and interstate commerce regulations.
